The Sovereign Empire AnOverview2

The Sovereign Empire is by definition every bit an imperialistic, aristocratic war-machine hellbent on expanding into and subsequently conquering the known universe. That isn't to say the Valdari people are barbaric, quite the contrary. The people of the Sovereign Empire are a greedy, materialistic collective of the galaxy's most avaricious individuals. For this reason, the Sovereign Empire is known to manipulate other galactic states at their own convenience and to simply strong-arm those who don't give in to their demands. The Sovereign Empire is ruled by several royal families that indulge in all things lavish and regal, and to satisfy this thirst for possession the Sovereign Empire has been known to take on protectorates. These protectorates are usually used for manual labor but some have have their hands turned for the battlefield. The most famous of these happens to be the Hierodule, the Empire's finest xenomorphs. These protectorates hold little to no political power in Sovereign society, the same goes for most of the Empire's civilian populace. The Sovereign Empire is an aristocracy ruled by the elite, and these elite just happen to be of royal blood. Currently there are five royal families that hold office in the collective, a convention of political power erected to ensure the Sovereign Empire remains a dominant force in Dominion. Fortunately for the rest of the galaxy most of the Sovereign Empire was lost to fallen protectorates and treacherous families whose loyalties turned elsewhere. That being said, the Sovereign Empire holds all the space in the first sector (named 'Sovereign Space') and has lost all their claims elsewhere. Unfortunately for the people of this galaxy this sudden turn of events only made the Valdari people more focused on reclaiming their lost territories.

Valdari naming conventions are usually relative where an individual is born. However, every known royal family has reigned supreme with a name of Germanic origin (The Arkhausers, Kaufmann, Brauers, Saengers, and Reinhardts respectively). Scholars have never been sure as to why this is, but such names would only be present in the Terran systems (Sector #24) a region of space formally occupied by the Sovereign Empire. The range of names present in Sovereign society continues to grow with each conquest and the people of the empire retain a collection of names accumulated over several hundred years of expansion. It's worth noting that every true Valdari citizen is human, though what is considered truly human has been a topic of discussion amongst the Valdari people for quite sometime.

The Sovereign Empire is home to the largest collection of transhumanists in the known galaxy. Transhumanism, is by definition a cultural movement that affirms the possibility and desirability of fundamentally transforming the human condition by developing and making widely available technologies to eliminate aging and to greatly enhance human intellectual, physical, and psychological capacities. That being said, Valdari technology reflects this belief in the way that most of the Valdari people have begun slowly replacing what once made them human with machinery. This is especially present in the Sovereign military, a force of transhuman soldiers who have willingly shed their humanity so that the Valdari people can expand and live in relative peace amongst the stars. These soldiers are enhanced by means of biological enhancement and cybernetics. They lack any moral compass and their memories have been replaced to ensure treason is non-existent in the Valdari military. The only members of the Sovereign armed forces that retain free will and thought are generals, tacticians, and the surgeons who turned these men in mindless extensions of the aristocracy's will. Woman are not present in the military as their natural mind and bodies are simply inefficient, and these women are sparred memory replacement so that they may continue maintaining the homefront.

This being said, Valdari life is actually quite desirable. Since the Sovereign Empire is an extremely profitable force in the galaxy, the Valdari people are often dressed in luxury and even their homeplanet has sacrificed an element of efficiency to make room for lavish mansions and estates. Since citizenship is granted only to true Valdari (and humans) this leaves a smaller demographic to enjoy the riches the empire has to offer. For those they conquer life is not so fortunate, and most planets 'reclaimed' by the Sovereign Empire are turned into foundry-worlds -- worlds they quickly industrialize and mine until the planet is nothing but a husk of it's formal self. Planets covered in beautiful forests are quickly cleansed by means of chemical fire, and arid desert spheres are coated in countless factories and munitions plants capable of fueling the Sovereign war-machine.

A Valdari poet once commented on Sovereign rule by stating that, "If you can't dress it red, it's better off dead." He was promptly executed.
