The Qetësi Doublebind

"Tësëmi ë matisë"
"Peace is destiny", the Qetësi precept.
Overview wrote:The Qetësi, formally the Amalgamation of the Eye, are a peaceful and curious race, shrouded in seclusion and mystery with intentions often unknown. They live within a near-utopian society after countless years of strife and civil war, governed by a traditionally orientated monarchy which places emphasis on creating their vision of a perfect society, one free of crime and violence. As such, they utilise a caste system, with great opportunity for social mobility and a strong belief in roles within society. Even those assigned to manual labour live happy lives. An interesting point to note is the lack of gender in Qetësi society, biology defining the two sexes with socialisation especially aimed at teaching principles of equality and opportunity. There is no expected, or "normal", behaviour for a male or a female. Because of this, females are a strong presence within the high ranking positions of society and the Navy, proven to possess (in general) a higher capability for thought than the males of their species. Both sexes possess a curious talent for improvisation, however.

Emotion is something prized in their society, based around a strict founding principle known as këiijëi. Though there is no direct translation of this word, it is very similar to the concept of humanity, albeit with more focus on remaining receptive to the emotions that shape the soul. A huge part of këiijëi, however, dictates that certain emotions be held back and contained - albeit only in the most appropriate times.

They maintain no landed military at all, focusing all their efforts and funding into their honoured Royal Navy. Those who volunteer for such a profession recieve extensive training, and are conditioned to live away from the values of their calm everyday lives and adopt the capability for violence, killing and the select moments of barbaricism required to function in combat. This does not mean, however, that their personalities find themselves altered drastically, and Qetësi military personnel are both curteous and polite from the highest admirals to the lowest sailors. Respect for one-another is one of the values they hold in the absolute highest regard.

The Qetësi find their unified faith in the belief a powerful guardian spirit dwells in their toliëm (sun), called qai-Sakëkei, the Eye. As such, they live their lives as told and guided by the highest member of society, the Leskëimi. They act as a king and spiritual leader, believed to be able to speak to the Eye and guide the people to a harmonious existence, as free from violence as possible.

The current Leskëimi is Aza që-Merilatëqai, a youthful female with a sharp wit and famed benevolence.

It is said that Aza's coronation came too early, with the unexpected and abrupt passing of her mother, the previous Leskëimi. As such, she is a bold and military-minded leader, exceptionally keen on the strength of the Royal Navy. In the current climate of multiple new dominions, she wills that the Qetësi take steps to defend their own existence. This is a logical concept for the people, as to protect the peace requires the survival of the Amalgamation.

The Qetësi Macci2b

Macci që-Lajmetar, Royal Ambassador of the Qaikëtesi-Qelmët
Highly respected for both her position as Ambassador and the honourable Lajmetar family of which she is a member, Macci has conducted the most important negotiations in Qetësi history, reporting directly to the Royal Council. The Qetësi have encountered many new races and dominions, and Macci has personally handled all of the first contact diplomacy to this date. She is considered by many the figurehead of the Qetësi in their pursuits off-world.
Race Information wrote:

  • The Qetësi are a near-human race, most notable for their cyan-blue hued skin tone and natural geometric facial patterns, most commonly in the shape of tessolating triangles or diamonds. Other markings akin to tattoos are often present, mimicking the natural markings and applied to show an individual's skill in a certain field.

  • Their hands possess two strong fingers and a thumb each, with fingernails identical to human physiology. Their palms, however, are considerably rougher in texture.

  • Their eyes are usually grey, violet or amber. The present royal family possess striking golden eyes, as the lesser nobility often do.

  • They stand at an average of 5'11".

  • Hair colours include blue, cyan, violet, black and white.

  • Their canines are slightly pointed and lengthened compared to those of humans, a racial reminder of their early tribal beginnings.

The Qetësi Homeworld

Qailësel
The homeworld of the Qetësi, orbited by the quiet and barren moon of Enselë.
Homeworld wrote:With near-perfect conditions to breed life and orbiting the blue sun at the center of Makëir, Qailësel is a planet not unlike the Earth humans thrived upon. It is, however, around nine times the size of Earth. It maintains a chilly climate, being at a far orbit from its sun, reaching temperatures of 15 degrees celcius in the short summer season and experiencing winters of up to -30 degrees at their coldest.

Primarily, the planet is farmland, with cities kept far away. To protect from the harsh winters, huge greenhouses are erected in any spot where the soil is unparalleled in quality, and as such the Qetësi find themselves never at a shortage of food. This food, often in massive surplus, is kept in large preservatory warehouses in the 'agricultural hubs' of the planet, where the paths from a network of greenhouses meet. This food takes decades to go bad, and is a primary export.

Qailësel is also prone to strange cloud formations, small cyclones forming exclusively on the cloud layer and forming a blanket of sparse, twisting cloud formations. Though rare, some cyclones have developed in the past to become landed whirlwinds and sources of great sorrow for the Qetësi. Measures have been taken to prevent this since, however, and the winds are constantly measured and observed at all times. These winds are impossible to see when no clouds are present.

Planetary Information:

The Qetësi Navypng

A Bëlu-type scout begins its journey off-world, accompanied by four planetary-based qol-Mëta escorts.
qol-Mëta (literally "planet fish") are only functional within the atmosphere, and possess no weaponry. They serve as a constant overwatch, maintaining an unending line of communication with a number of networks and monitor stations. Here, however, they are simply aiding the cumbersome Bëlu in a tight maneuver out of port.
The Royal Navy wrote:The Royal Navy is the pride of the Qetësi, featuring the forefront of their technology and military focus. It is one of the most respected professions in the whole of their society, even at the lowest ranks. To serve is to give your family honour, acting as a defender of the peace and calm in which the Qetësi prosper.

The Qetësi fleet, at present, consists of the following:

Qelqësmijar; Atirëi-class këtaimular (flagship)

Sëjla-Imitlo; Olëda-class qetemke (cruiser)
Selekë-Lorqit; Olëda-class qetemke (cruiser)

Meirmëta; Lorqëmoke-class këitkëurro (destroyer)
Këortukë; Lorqëmoke-class këitkëurro (destroyer)
Muke; Lorqëmoke-class këitkëurro (destroyer)
Orul-Mëirim; Lorqëmoke-class këitkëurro (destroyer)

Lëmjar-Okëi; Bëlu-class ketëlarel (scout)

Focused Pulse wrote:Qetësi ships utilise a unique technology known as 'focused pulse', effectively a combination of railgun and plasma technology.

Focused pulse works by electromagnetically accelerating a plasma shell down the barrel of the chosen weapon. On firing, a ferromagnetic, solid slug is turned into a plasma. This is achieved through electromagnetic induction, as scientists found it relatively easy to alternate the coil current at frequencies sufficient to heat the coil to an extreme temperature whilst keeping it in the chamber. The solenoid is then charged fully, propelling the new plasma out of the gun at an extreme velocity while keeping it cohesive; though this field continues to keep the plasma together until impact, residual plasma is expelled from the barrel to produce the weapon's considerable muzzle flash.

Because of this, their weapons have an incredible range and do not lose impact force or energy until a very long distance away. Their projectiles appear as incredibly fast-moving stretched balls of bright cyan-blue plasma.

Flagship:
"Qelqësmijar", the Qetësi flagship and only serving Atirëi-class këtaimular (dreadnought)

Commanded by the brave and infamously daring Vice Admiral Kërei al-Mëtari and first commissioned to mark the coronation of the Leskëimi, the Qelqësmijar is the largest and most powerful ship in the entire Royal Navy at a length of just over 7 kilometres. It passively maintains a presence within the Makëir system, either running simple patrols or staying docked above the atmosphere as a sight for all to be proud of.

Flagship Specifications wrote:Length: 23,000 ft (7,010.4 metres)
- Most of this space is to accomodate the main cannon, it's titanic sized plasma shells and its complicated and vast network of cooling vents.
Main Engines: 2x QRS Type 95 Pulse-Turbine Drives
- Twelve Sub-Orbital Turbines complement these gigantic powerplants, allowing for a good maneuverability and extra speed if needed. They also function as engines for when the ship must enter a planet's atmosphere, though this is not very often.
Anchors: Twenty gravitational anchors, port and starboard bow in equal measure.
Shielding: A single layered, very resistant kinetic barrier shield lies flat against the hull, projected around 20 feet from the surface.
Armor: The main armor belt of the hull consists of 9, extremely strong layers.
Tech Defence: The on-board systems cannot recieve outside commands of any kind, the consoles on board the only way to operate them.
Crew: 752 in total, with virtually all processes handled through the consoles on the ship's bridge or elsewhere.
- 24 (upper bridge)
- 120 (lower bridge)
- 400 (engineers / weapon maintenance)
- 10 (primary armament overseers)
Garrison: 10,000 Sector 7 marines

Primary Armament: Type 33 Focused Pulse Central Long-Cannon
- No known conventional calibre, size exceeds that of any weapon ever built by the Qetësi.
- Requires specially granted authorisation from both the Queen and Grand-Admiral to even consider being fired.
Number of Guns: 1 total
- Built within the ship, running centrally through the hull in a specially constructed chamber to allow for cooling. The vents are located at the sides of the ship, and at the back, by the engines.
Gun Length: 16,124 ft (in total)
Rate of Fire: 1 round every 3 minutes
- The gun must recharge and vent, a careful process. The gun is ready to fire within 3 minutes, thanks to highly mechanising loading systems, but for safety extra time is always provided to let it cool.
- The ship itself carries around 11 'shells' for the gun, and more are produced when specially ordered. They are not in regular production, by no means.
Elevation Angle [Max/Min]: 0°/0°
- The orientation of the ship decides how the weapon is aimed.

The Qetësi Qetesibabe

Kërei al-Mëtari, Vice Admiral of the Qaikëtesi-Navë, Commander of the "Qelqësmijar".
Pictured here in pilot's uniform and featuring in many stories of adventure and exploration, al-Mëtari rose from a simple Petty Officer fresh out of the Lorokëi Naval Academy and quickly rose through the ranks for her dedication to service and unyielding bravery in the face of danger. She was notably not of noble birth, making it into Lorokëi on merit alone.

She is also an incredibly renowned pilot, and even from a young age found herself longing to be at the controls of a spacecraft. In her teenage years, she participated in and won four consecutive flying competitions, owing it to her exceptional reflexes and understanding of her chosen ship.

Upon joining the military, she also found a profound fascination with firearms, specifically the large kind. She has recieved lengthy triaining and experience with the iconic light pulse cannon she is rarely seen without, being quite the shot. For many, she is a hero of the Navy, an inspirational figure commanding respect and displaying an uncharacteristic roughness whilst maintaining her racial stoicism and politeness.

The Qetësi Serce2

Sercë qe-Merilatëqai, Honoured Grand-Admiral of the Qaikëtesi-Navë, Supreme Naval Commander of the Amalgamation.
Sister to the current Leskëimi, posessing both her facial markings and golden eye colour, Sercë was personally appointed to the newly created rank of Grand-Admiral following the construction of Qelqësmijar, the Amalgamation's titanic flagship. She did not take command of the vessel, instead being relegated to the total command of all Qetësi naval forces on and off-world, whilst Vice Admiral Kërei al-Mëtari took personal charge of the newly constructed dreadnought.

The decision to give her such power was met with considerable controversy, some Qetësi citizens even going as far as staging a peaceful protest, albeit without any noises. Sercë was well known prior to her appointment for willingly rejecting the conditioning process all highborn Qetësi undergo. This carried incredible weight within their society, as there now existed a person in the palace who was prone to the barbaric violence of ancient times.

Aza was first to appear publically, personally offering words of reason and explanation as to her decision to appoint Sercë. The Amalgamation and the Qetësi people, she said, were advancing into an unknown world past the tranquility of their planet, where many other empires and races existed. It was therefore necessary, to give ultimate power and guidance of këijëi to one who knew how to carry out orders without remorse. Sercë swore that should conflict and violence ever befall the Qetësi, she would keep it away from their home.

Her more recent policies, however, have focused on the survival of the Qetësi people as a whole. Combined with her sister's militaristic values, she created a new approach for the Amalgamation - one focused on defense, strategic acquisition of resources and the ultimate goal of an impenetrable Makëir. Violence is usually shielded from the people, since conflict is both tragic and inevitable.
